SPRING COVERED DISH LUCHEON

On April 27th, our usual Friendship Sunday, Trinity will have for the first time ever, our congregational “Covered Dish Luncheon” following church service.  Let’s make it a great success for all our families and friends to be there.  The Women’s Guild will furnish the meat, rolls, and beverages.  All that will be needed will be various dishes from those attending.

Two weeks before the 27th, there will be a sign-up sheet for those attending and the dish they will bring.  Let’s make this “Luncheon” a day to remember and then set another future date “to do it again”!  Hoping to see you all there!

                    God bless you,
                    Trinity Women’s Guild

BETHESDA HOMES

Immediately before the April luncheon we will be showing an informational DVD on the Bethesda Homes. The purpose of this is informational so that we will have a better understanding of this valuable ministry. Some of our members have already benefited from their services. We will also be asking for a freewill offering as a fund raiser since the Bethesda Homes don’t accept any financial support outside of our churches. Thrivent will be matching those funds collected. Thank you in advance for your support. Even if you are unable to stay for the Covered Dish Luncheon we hope you will watch the DVD and consider a gift to this worthy ministry. This event is sponsored by the Ladies Guild.

THANK YOU

On behalf of my husband Charles and myself, I would like to thank each and everyone for their cards, their prayers and their support during my husband’s open-heart surgery.  Also, I would like to thank the Women’s Guild and especially Daria Barnes for taking over for me during this difficult time.

FROM THE PASTOR

The book of Acts is a wonderful history of what happens next after the resurrection. How we look at those events and take to heart the efforts of the early church as our work to continue speaks about how we have taken the works of Christ as ours. Here is a short study to reacquaint you with those events and prepare you for the series of readings we will be covering this month.

    1.  Read Acts chapter 2. Compare and contrast the Peter you encounter in this reading and the one you are familiar with in the events of Holy Week. What seems to have changed? Which Peter do you relate to more, why or why not?

    2.  Continue by rereading Acts 2 verses 42-47. The church as it is described here is very different from how we as a church are organized today. List the similarities you see there as well as the contrasts in two columns. Now underline the similarities. Which are more important, the similarities or the differences? Have we truly achieved the similarities and if not what can you do to make it so?

    3.  Read Acts chapter 6. Who do you relate to more, the Christians or the Jews? When have you felt like either and why? When God shows us our sins how does that make you feel? Do you feel you can change to be more like how God wants you to be?

    4.  Read Acts chapter 17. Do you feel we live in the same sort of world Paul did, why or why not? If we are living in that sort of culture, can you see how Paul is being effective in getting people to relate to who Jesus is? Could you do the same with the gifts you have been given and how? Be specific.

ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE
March 2008 Report

We have a few items to pass along from the Activities Committee this month. Some are ongoing, but some are new!

Lenten Soup and Sandwich Dinners: The final two Wednesday Lenten soup and sandwich dinners went very well. The provided soup and desserts were excellent and the fellowship was wonderful. For both Wednesdays, we had about 15 people at each dinner.

A Little Change because of Your Survey Responses!: Last month, we mentioned that we were considering a Spring Dance as a fellowship and fund raiser effort. Well, while that may still be consideration for another time, we – the Activities Committee – will be concentrating on events suggested by those responses to our surveys. Specifically, we will be looking into bus trips to nearby attractions, various activities, and baseball games. In addition to thanking all those that responded, we want to extend a special thank you to all those that stated that they would help organize and/or help with events. Look for a phone call from Terri or Andy!!!
We are still looking to hear from those of you that have yet to turn in the survey. If you need another, or if you didn’t receive one, let Terri or Andy know. Your input/feedback/thoughts are needed to ensure that we offer events and activities that matter to you, the members of TLC.

Update: A Gift for Moms and Dads: The Activities Committee ordered and received the devotional cards and pins to be given on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Sundays.

A Fund Raiser Event for TLC: To help with the Building Fund, the Activities Committee is looking into a merchandise fund raiser. Details on this are coming.
                    Respectfully Submitted,
                    Andy and Terri Bowers

TRINITY WOMEN’S GUILD
March 13, 2008

The table prayer was given by Pastor Keith and coconut cake and orange jello with cool whip and pineapple and beverages were served by Arlene Mainster and Marge Tine with a St. Patrick’s Day theme.
The meeting was called to order by Daria Barnes as Pastor Keith read the devotional from The Lord Will Answer.
Roll call showed seven members present plus Pastor Keith. Minutes from February were read and approved.
Treasurer Sally Slack reported a working balance of $841.80 and $2,875.13 in CEF. Cookbook profit to date was noted to be $1,318.22.
Under Old Business, Betsy Douglas reported on Bethesda Home after reviewing a 10 min DVD. She then made a motion to show it to the congregation on April 27th during church and hold a fund raiser for the home at the Pot Luck Luncheon (see New Business section). Carol Hill seconded the motion and it was approved by all.
Also, the Women’s Guild ladies signed up to be greeters at the prayer vigil Maundy Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Marge Time reported that a gift card for Easter is being sent to Janna Less and other money collected was going to help servicemen and their families.
Joanne Ahrenhold reported on the information on the WG having a table at the Chestertown Farmers Market. While there is no charge, we can only have a table at the market a few times. We just need to get an application at the Town Hall.
Under New Business, Volunteers are needed to sell cookbooks at the Tea Party, held the last week of May (Memorial Day weekend).
Also, there will be a Pot Luck Luncheon after church on Sunday, April 27th in the Fellowship Hall. Women’s Guild will provide the main dish and there will be a sign up sheet for salads and desserts.
Hostesses for the April meeting will be Joanne Ahrenhold and Carol Hill.
We closed the meeting by praying the Lord’s Prayer in unison.
                    Respectfully Submitted,
                    Carol Hill, Secretary
